Volleyball and basketball were my two favorite units among the rest of the units for this year. I chose volleyball because I finally got to do a new unit that I have never done before! It is great to have some volleyball experience for the future just in case if I do volleyball again in PE. It was a challenge to learn something new than having it done before because you have to listen to the instructions very carefully and try to do your best to do some abilities like using your tips of your fingers to push the ball in the air for your team mate to smash, etc. It's also a fun sport although we haven't experienced some advance moves like smashing, proper serving, etc. The basic moves got me havingg fun in the volleyball unit. For basketball, it is one of my favorite sports and I have had lot's of experience. For example, I have done U-13 basketball and made some terrific passes, shots, lay-ups, etc in the tournament. Basketball get's my heart pumping very hard because you have to run down and up on the court, and you have to use all of your energy when the opponent has a counter attack. Since I am very tall for a thirteen year old, I took this advantage to use it very wisely for basketball. Now that I play basketball, lot's of people got to know me very well like Victor, William, etc.
2. Identify the unit that you found difficult or challenged you because you did not like it. Provide examples of what you did to find success in that unit. Feel free to use pictures to help out your explanations.
The units that I found the most challenging was Dancing. Dancing is the unit that I'm most uncomfortable with, but I don't nessesarily hate it. It's just that dancing for a tall guy seems unnatural. I mean that I think that dancing is often done by girls because they enjoy it. I think that breakdancing is the type of dance that boys especially like. But for boys, it's common for people to like to do outdoor sports to sweat, play, and have fun. So I'm that kind of person who loves outdoor sports. The success that I did for that unit was to not be embarassed and just hold do the instructions and get it over with. I tried to act natural like my other friends so that I can blend with them.
3. Chose any 2 of the SLRs that you feel you excelled at during your year in PE class. Explain, providing clear examples where you where you actively used the 2 SLRs during various PE units. Use a picture or 2 of you in action using the SLRs of choice.
The two SLR's that I feel that I excelled during my year in PE class are communicating effectively, and learnin g enthusiastically . I have communicated effectively by telling other people what to do so that I can give them an oppertunity for them to make a difference. I want to give other people chances and make them feel good about themselves like in the basketball unit, since I am tall, I can reach the ball easily and then I can pass the ball to my teammates so they can have a jumpshot. In soccer, our team mates would call out to the person who they were passing to so that they can get their attention and receive the ball. This can prevent any errors in the match like conceeding goals by giving the other team the possession. For learning enthusiastically, I always have wanted to learn new skills, in sports so I would pay attention closely and try my best to follow it. For example, for floor hockey, I have forgotten the "traditional" way of blocking the shots but now that the teacher has demonstrated it properly, I was able to follow it although it wasn't very comfortable. I always come to class in a good mood to get ready for PE.
This picture shows me doing a shot on target. Learning enthusiastically can tie into this picture because I am trying to learn how to shoot after a long time of not playing soccer.
This picture shows me doing an "awkward" shot with my left foot. I don't know why but I added some "kung fu" soccer skills by adding my arm out. It makes me laugh so much!
